Your Claude Code subscription
The desktop app runs agents on your Mac with the Claude Code plan you already have. It can also pick up your cloud workspace’s runs, so your subscription does the work the browser app schedules.

Prefer OpenAI? Choose Codex as the backend and the same agents run on your Codex subscription instead.

A local model
Run Gemma through Ollama, entirely on your machine. OpenHelm runs the agent loop itself and gives the model file, shell and web tools. Local models are best at focused jobs; long multi-step work is still better on a larger model.

Questions
Is OpenHelm affiliated with Anthropic or OpenAI?
No. OpenHelm runs the Claude Code or Codex command-line tools you have installed and signed in to, on your behalf. It is independent.
Do runs on my own subscription use credits?
No. Credits are only spent when agents run on hosted models.
Which local models work?
Gemma models served by Ollama today. Smaller models suit focused jobs; the app warns you when a machine is short of memory.
What happens when my Claude Code usage limit is hit?
Work is parked, not failed, and picks up again when the limit resets.
